A number of projects in the field of crystal growth are currently being co-ordinated by ESA. These projects were submitted, in response to an Announcement of Opportunity in 1999 (AO-99), and have received either 'Highly-Recommended' or 'Recommended' during the peer-evaluation process. This peer review was based on scientific merit, innovation, industrial interest and microgravity relevance.
